The world’s first Cannabis Wedding Expo took place in Denver early January, on the same day as Denver’s traditional wedding expo, with a twist – upcycled hemp and silk dresses took the place of chiffon, and sex was a major topic.

Pot party planners Bec Koop and Phil Wolf teamed up to bring Denver alternatives to age old-traditions, demonstrating to brides and grooms to-be how to incorporate America’s favorite herb into their big day.

Budtending, infused cake, and plethora of wedding accessories all turned green during this first expo, with Los Angeles sex educator Ashley Manta advising, cannabis offers relaxation, and honeymoon enhancements not found inside a champagne bottle.

“If the herb is already in your life on a regular basis, then it should be in your wedding,” founder, Bec Koop, of Denver’s Cannabis Concierge Events shared.

With the stigma against the plant still intact in the minds of mainstream businesses, the two mavericks forged ahead, knowing the first time around would be the most difficult sell.

“Trying to get the first group of people to get onboard for anything is always difficult,” Koop continued. “Many of the vendors don’t even do traditional wedding expos, so we felt very blessed that they were interested in participating.”

The irony was, Koop explained, those vendors who participated felt the cannabis crowd were “their type of preferred clients.”

She and expo partner Phil Wolf teamed up naturally with their respective skill sets, coming together Fall of 2015, putting together others brave enough to cross over.
